Character education lesson plans are crucial for teachers across the country to carefully develop. Basic math and science skills are necessary for any child's learning, but when they are combined with important life lessons, the quality of an education increases exponentially.
In this article, we will talk about the youngest students: children in kindergarten. Ideally, we will ensure that our children, while being taught to read, write and do basic math and science, will also learn the importance of morality and ethics. Just like a parent who slips in some vegetables with an otherwise tasty meal, you can impart all kinds of wisdom onto your students without them ever realizing it! Here are some ideas for character education lesson plans for parents and teachers: The Stuffed Animal Game Introduce the concept of character with a storybook and stuffed animal that goes along with it. Any narrative about a character who has to overcome personal weaknesses by using courage and inner strength; where you must do the right thing in the face of a conflict, should make the point. Just make sure to choose a story that you can easily find an appropriate stuffed animal for. (For example, if your lead character is a brown dog, that's great.) Then hand the stuffed animal to a child and ask him or her to tell of a personal experience that's relatable. The child will then go home with the stuffed animal and try to model his or her behavior after the character and share that behavior with the class the next day. The stuffed animal will then go to another child after this. (It might be a good idea to get some back up stuffed animals!) The Lego Game Divide the class into teams and give each team a set of legos. Then display a pre-made lego structure to the whole class; the teams must then cooperate to create that structure with their own legos. The first team to accomplish the task wins. Discuss in detail how each team approached this project. Identify why some teams did well and others did not. Teamwork and effective communication are natural skills to discuss. How simple is that? Both of these character education lesson plans can teach skills that youngsters can use throughout the remainder of their lives. They learn how to use skills like self-control, patience, etc, in their daily lives and cooperate with each other in order to achieve the goal. Get creative! It’s really not difficult to think up your own character education lesson plans. Keep in mind that every age group benefits from a different teaching style. No teacher can properly communicate a lesson about morality and ethics to a child if he or she is a bit hazy on the issue.
