Depression Hurts Us
But Only If We Allow It To

Article

Depression hurts us emotionally, of course. But did you know that it will have tremendous effects on every aspect of your life?

Going to a job interview; about to have a baby; beginning a new romantic relationship? Whatever the case, if you're depressed, you're almost guaranteed to fail.

In fact, even when you do success complete an important task, you probably won't experience the well-deserved joy that you should and may even dismiss the success entirely if you're depressed.

Obviously, depression is not asset anyone should seek to acquire.

Until you come to the conclusion, however, that depression has some very serious and long-term consequences to not only your emotional state of mind and spirit, but also to your physical health – you may not be inspired to make any big changes in your life.

So how exactly is it that depression hurts your chances at success? W

ell, let's ask an expert on the issue: early 20th century writer Dr. Orison Swett Marden. Dr. Marden was the inventor of the self-help movement in America and since then, there really hasn't been such an equally inspiring and practical advisor on success.

Dr. Marden had one central idea that pops up in every single book he wrote: one's mental process is what impacts their path in life the most.

In his book “Loves Way,” for example, Dr. Marden told readers that if they looked at life in a positive way and had faith in good things like love and generosity, they would see prosperity in their lives.

On the other hand, if they insisted on having a negative attitude, their lower expectations would only be realized.

They would indeed see the worst in people and in themselves and there would be little hope for them. This is how Dr. Marden explained that depression hurts us – not in just the immediate and obvious way.

Once we realize how depression hurts us, we can take the steps to solve the problem.

We can try to think differently and form new mental habits that replace our old, unproductive ones. This is not an easy task at first. However, if we embrace it with all our energy and will and determination, we surely can be a success story ourselves.

Dr. Marden may have died in the 1920's, but his message can still be heard loud and clear with downloadable audio!

Thanks to the Leadership Series For Successful Living, you can download five of his classic books for audio and listen to them right away. So if you're looking for that motivation to make the changes you need to make in life, then give it a try today.
