Depression In Pregnancy
and Leadership Solutions

Article

If you're experiencing depression in pregnancy, do not worry. While we often hear of postpartum depression, we hardly ever hear of depression during pregnancy.

Yet it's true, you can experience frightening feelings of anxiety and hopelessness as you carry your baby – not just after he or she is born.

Leadership Quote

"Life has a practice of living you, if you don't live it."

- Philip Larkin

It’s no wonder really. Just think of all the added pressure and responsibility that comes with being a new parent!

The countless thoughts of how to provide for a new human being can at times become overwhelming. It’s important to understand that these feelings are normal.

Take solice in knowing that you will find your way, and your baby will do just fine.

If your symptoms become more than just the normal “jitters” of parenthood, you may want to seek counsel from a professional.

Up to 10% of women experience depression in pregnancy. What are the symptoms? Well, the signs of depression during pregnancy are the same signs of depression in general.

These signs may include:

  • More than a couple of weeks of a consistently unhappy mood
  • Change in eating and sleeping patterns
  • Loss of appeal of old hobbies and activities
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of energy
  • Restlessness
  • Irritability
  • Feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness

Now, you've probably noticed that these signs of depression are also the signs of pregnancy, at least some of them. How do you know if you feel tired because you're pregnant or because you're experiencing depression in pregnancy?

The key is to determine if you're experiencing all of these symptoms, as opposed to just a few. If you are fearing the worst, then by all means seek the proper counsel.

You certainly do not want to do anything to jeopardize the health and safety of your new baby, so it's important you pay careful attention to depression in pregnancy.

Therapy and medication can come to the rescue if you are suffering from depression. However, you also might want to invest in more outside help – perhaps from an important set of audiobooks!

Dr. Orison Swett Marden, author of the classic “Stepping Stones,” has also inspired a new series of audiobooks that might just give you the inspiration to see yourself as an immensely capable human being.

For example, in “Stepping Stones,” Dr. Marden's message is that there are opportunities left and right and as long as a person has an ideal for themselves for tomorrow, they can take the opportunities to achieve that ideal today.

Thus, you will rekindle your self-esteem and zeal for life.

As a pregnant woman, you may feel too tired to read. Fortunately with the Leadership Series For Successful Living, you can listen to Dr. Marden's motivational teachings online.

So don't feel guilty or confused if you suffer from depression – there is plenty of help out there for you to guide you through your struggles.

This leadership audio series might just be the thing to have on your side. Dr. Marden wrote for anyone lost in life – and that includes you!
