Emotional Sadness
Why Not Life A Life Of Purpose?

Article

Do you suffer from emotional sadness? Perhaps you think it's out of your control, that life's circumstances can require only one emotional response from you.

The fact is, different people react differently to the exact same situations. Many are blessed with a naturally positive outlook on life, while others can only see the negative.

It's okay if you're in the latter category, but you must recognize this is the case so that you can take steps to improve your outlook.

If you want to be happy in life: you must try to model after those who insist on being enthusiastic and hopeful and idealistic about today and tomorrow and all days to come.

If you can learn to think differently, then you can learn to say goodbye to emotional sadness.

It's normal that we cycle through normal emotions from day to day. We must experience pain as well as joy and if we are never sad, we are probably not taking on enough risk in our lives.

But there is a dark side to sadness: depression. If we take sorrow to the extreme, there will be no balance or progress in our lives.

Dr. Orison Swett Marden, in his powerfully inspirational book “Loves Way,” urges readers to rethink their lives and not view emotional sadness as an inevitable reaction to their personal reality.

He insisted that it was merely one's attitude toward life that directed their success or lack of success in it.

If we persisted in thinking negatively about ourselves, our situations, and others around us, we'd see nothing else but what we wanted to see.

The great news is - the same goes for thinking positively! Dr. Marden saw great influence in having a loving, generous attitude toward others – because as a result, we would see the same hope and potential for greatness and redemption in ourselves, and there would be no end to our success.

Emotional sadness does not have to be your reality.

Sure, it may be more difficult for you to overcome depression – whether because of your genetic predisposition or your personal circumstances – but if you make a choice to choose happiness over unhappiness, you can eventually develop a habit of happiness that overtakes your life.
