Happiness and education often go hand in hand. Why is this? If the phrase “ignorance is bliss” is correct, then shouldn't the least educated be the most thrilled to live out their lives? While sometimes it is indeed a blessing to be unaware of some of the grim realities in this world, ignorance is not anything one should strive for in order to avoid dealing with life's problems. Education, whether formal or informal, is what teaches us the solutions to problems, so without it, we have little hope for a successful future. Education is a door to a billion opportunities and an enlightening journey that can be used however the educated person sees fit to use it. For most of us, happiness and education really do seem to be a fine pair. But what does this really mean? Why would an education lead to a happier life? Simply put, the more we know about the vast world around us and all the people that came before us, the more we realize we have a multitude of options when confronted with any issue. Education, when it is genuinely and passionately pursued, humbles us. However, it also gives us useful knowledge that we can put to work in our everyday lives. This combination of self-discovery and real, practical knowledge is a powerful one. A college degree not only gives us more opportunities for jobs, but it also teaches us lessons that we can use on a day to day basis. Happiness and education are worlds away from being mutually exclusive. Still not convinced? Consider that the more educated a nation – the more prosperous it becomes. This is a fact. Governments across the globe learned early on that when one can pursue both happiness and education, there is a vibrant energy in the air that you cannot measure. Even the most ancient rulers highly valued scholarly citizens and encouraged scholarship in their inner circles. Dr. Orison Swett Marden was a 20th century thinker and writer in America who also encouraged scholarship. During the time period when he published his many classic books on success (like the generously optimistic “Thoughts About Good Cheer”), Americans were getting used to an entirely new environment. They suddenly had the freedom to chase after whatever dreams they wanted, and education often played a big role in this. The Leadership Series For Successful Living will introduce you to Dr. Marden and his powerful teachings. In this inspiring series you can listen to five of his most treasured books, complete with ebook versions and workbooks.
