How Does Stress Affect Health?

Article

"How does stress affect health?", you may be wondering. If you deal with stress and anxiety, and even depression, the answer to that question is something you should pay attention to.

The fact of the matter is when you're stressed out, your immune system suffers, and as a result, you may develop physical – as well as emotional – symptoms.

Leadership Quote

"People are just about as happy as they make up their mind to be."

- Abraham Lincoln

Your health is often the cost of the various pressures that we allow society to place upon us.

We must work to protect the quality of our health, because once your health is at risk, it’s very difficult to enjoy any other aspect of your life.

So how does stress affect health exactly? Well, in many ways actually. The biggest problem is that people simply have a lack of self-awareness, and therefore they do not act quickly to protect their health, or they may not realize the cause of their degrading health.

As a result, they miss key opportunities to fend off worsening symptoms.

Here are some physical symptoms of stress to keep in mind:

  • Increased or decreased appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Tension headaches
  • Stomach aches
  • Frequent illnesses

So in answer to the question “how does stress affect health” let’s now determine what you can do about it? How do you suddenly make stress stop? Fortunately, there are both short term and longer term solutions to everyday stress issues.

First, there are steps you can take to improve your physical wellbeing without tackling the more complex causes of your anxiety or stress. For example, get eight hours of sleep every night and eat a nutritional diet.

Doing these two things alone will make a tremendous difference in your life and actually work to decrease your stress levels!

It's important to understand: when you improve your emotional state, you improve your physical state, and vice versa.

But there are other things you can do to minimize stress in your life. Learn to say “no” to tasks and responsibilities that add unwanted stress to your life.

Take a time out every day to meditate, take a bubble bath, read, pray or write. It's important that you always have some time for yourself every day – time that is relaxing and personally enjoyable.

Don't worry about wasting this time; after all, you'll be more productive in life if you take care of yourself.

There also might are some great self-help books that can help you organize your life and get inspired to achieve your goals without stressing out about them!

Dr. Orison Swett Marden's “Talks with Great Workers,” for example, is an incredibly inspiring book.

In “Talks with Great Workers,” you will be treated to the countless stories of the most successful people in the United States and how they followed their destinies, despite their humble beginnings.

These stories are particularly inspiring when you realize the struggles that took place a century ago, versus the pressures of today.

The good news is that you can listen to Dr. Marden's most treasured teachings online with the Leadership Series For Successful Living.

Once your arm yourself with these important messages of hope, faith and optimism, it will go along way to answer your personal questions about how does stress affect health and quality of life.
