How To Cope With Stress

Article

Are you trying to figure out how to cope with stress? Maybe you feel like you just want to hit something or someone or scream at the top of your lungs as the stress builds up over the course of the day!

Whether it's a wayward child, a pressing deadline, money troubles, or perhaps you just have a bad headache – whatever the case, you'll always encounter a bit of stress every now and then.

But perhaps the best way to deal with your anxieties and anger is to allow time to be still, sit down, take a breather, and relax.

Remember Thumper's advice to Bambi? “If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.”

Certainly there are times when you need to be outspoken and opinionated, but the rewards of holding your temper are often far greater than those of lashing out at your friends, relatives, coworkers, and even strangers.

When we are learning how to cope with stress, our first reaction is often to release our emotions upon those persons who are unfortunate to be around us at the time. Many times, it tends be the people we love most.

However, the 19th century founder of the American movement and really, the first prominent self-help expert, had very different advice for how to cope with stress.

In his book “Manners,” Dr. Orison Swett Marden taught that a man or woman who controlled his feelings and didn't give into his anger, was a person who had quite a successful and happy life in store for them!

Dr. Marden believed that even the smallest acts of kindness and good manners helped to build a foundation for a person's character and would play a major role in that person's successes in life.

He taught that true happiness came from kind acts, not acts of anger – no matter how justified.

The stronger person was not the one who would sacrifice good manners to get a point across, but someone who would get that point across precisely because of his good manners.

If you want to discover how to cope with stress without following your instincts to rant and rage, then give the Leadership Series For Successful Living a try.

With this leadership audio series, you can learn the key lessons of Dr. Marden's many books on success, by simply downloading the series. It's as easy as that.

It's not always simple to hold back what you really want to say, but with the proper tools and practice, you can become a person of great integrity, who is not only in control of their own actions, but their destiny too.
