How To Handle Stress
For A Healthy Mind & Body

Article

Want to learn how to handle stress? Maybe expectations from the boss, your spouse, children or your professor are piling up and just seem too much to bear.

Perhaps you're moving to another state or about to get married (or divorced) or maybe you've just endured the tragic loss of a loved one. Whatever the case – no matter how severe or mild – stress is not a friend to you.

So here are some easy, convenient steps to take to rid paralyzing, hectic stress from your life.

You really can live your day-to-day life without constantly worrying about all the many things that could go wrong in it!

So, take a deep breath, relax, and continue reading.

How to handle stress in five steps:

  • Track down your stress and make it your goal to kill it.
If you don't admit that you lead a stressful life, there's little hope of conquering it. But if you realize that stress is casting a shadow over your life and hindering your happiness and ambitions, then you're on the right path to overcome this obstacle.
  • Evaluate what's causing your stress.
Sit down somewhere with just you and your thoughts, and make an inventory of what you are stressed out about. Money? Family? All of the above? Once you can pinpoint the causes of stress in your life, you can then more easily learn how to handle stress, as you can tackle problems when they are defined.
  • Discover your tools and resources.
Fortunately, there are many tools and resources at your fingertips – on the web and right in front of your nose! Don't fall for “stress balls” and other quick-fix products you can buy at the store. If you want to really learn how to handle stress, you're going to have to work on your inner self more thoroughly. Keep a journal and incorporate relaxing activities into your daily schedule (like yoga or meditation). Stress is powerful and you must actively battle it.
  • Remember to eat and sleep right.
Stress increases your heart rate and weakens your immune system. If you're dealing with stress, you must protect your health against it. Luckily, as you do this, you will also counter stress in your life. Because the more veggies you eat and the more hours of sleep you get every night, the less likely it is you will be stressed during the day!
  • Don't fear asking for help.
This is somewhat a reiteration of #1, but it's important that you grasp that asking for help is a brave step in the right direction, not a sign of weakness. It's also an indicator of maturity and self awareness.

We all have imperfections and if you're willing to accept yours and do something about them, that's a whole lot wiser than pretending like you're perfect and don't need any outside help at all.

Speaking of asking for help, you may want to invest a little reading time in the works of Dr. Orison Swett Marden, author of many self-help books including “Keeping Fit,” which encourages readers to ensure their emotional wellbeing by first eating right and staying active!

With the Leadership Series For Successful Living, you can even listen to five of his books on audio, risk free for eight entire weeks.
