Improving Self Esteem
Marden’s Message To Self

Article

Improving self esteem and personal improvement should be a goal for each and every individual who seeks to achieve great things in life.

This article is devoted to introducing you to the powerful teachings of Dr. Orison Swett Marden, the founder the success movement in America.

Dr. Marden died in the 1920's, so why are we interested in what he had to say almost a hundred years ago?

Simply put, Dr. Marden was one of the most incredible success stories of his time and he shared what drove him to succeed with the world in his many popular self-help books.

It was said that he published two books a year during his 30-year writing career! Dr. Marden had terribly humble beginnings, however. He grew up as a poor, abused orphan.

But that didn't stop him – eventually Dr. Marden attended both Boston University and Harvard University, where he grabbed distinguished degrees, and he also met tremendous financial rewards in the business arena (despite many setbacks).

His passion, however, was writing and teaching others. As a young man he became inspired by the works of Samuel Smiles, author of “Self-Help”.

Dr. Marden became determined to give Americans a new perspective on life and to show them the limitless possibility life held for each and every one of them, no matter how “meek and mild.”

While this may seem old hat today, it was a novel concept in the late 1800's and early 1900's and one that Dr. Marden's readers could not get enough of.

Shortly after Dr. Marden’s death, Dale Carnegie rose to prominence and the whole idea that one could control their own economic endeavors became commonplace. So what does all of this have to do with improving self esteem?

Well, the reason Dr. Marden was such an influential thinker was because he believed in the power of the mind over the body. For example, in his amazing book “Why Grow Old?” he explained how our physical health often is affected by what we expect it to be.

For instance, if we think our body is going to start showing obvious signs of aging by our 60's, it will.

On the other hand, if we believe that we can boast youthful, vibrant energy at age 60, and we take care of ourselves, we will most definitely appear more joyous, alive and healthy than our negative thinking peers.

And so the cycles goes. Positive thinking, coupled with a strong belief system, is vital to improving self esteem.

Our feelings of self-worth and our ability to realize our ambition are completely determined by what and how we think about ourselves. It's really as simple as that!

If you're interested in what else Dr. Marden had to say, you can listen to five of his most cherished books online with the Leadership Series For Successful Living.

This amazing series is a worthwhile investment of your time, as his century-old words of wisdom might be just what you need for improving self esteem and making the most out of the time you have.

Marden’s teachings show us how to live a more joyous life, experience prosperity and abundance and why it is so important to serve others.
