Leadership Exercises
Building Confidence To Lead

Article

Leadership exercises can be highly valuable in building your team and your organization. Regardless of your position or what career you're in, leadership is required for true success in life.

Why is this? If a person is not confident about their abilities and the future they can realize as a result of those abilities, then why have any aspirations at all? Obviously, this sort of thinking is absurd.

The fact is that too many people are resigned to living out their lives with very little ambition and have lost any expectation that they will fulfill their grandest dreams.

They believe their time has passed them by, after all, life is short. Should this really be our attitude? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

One of America's great leaders, Dr. Orison Swett Marden, certainly didn't think so.

In book after book, including classics like “Success Under Difficulties” and “Loves Way,” he encouraged his readers to stop settling for less and instead believe that they were capable of greatness, no matter what their age or environment.

It wasn't a low IQ or less-than-impressive talents and ability that prevented them from having more than a mediocre life – it was their attitude!

So, how do you begin to develop habits of thinking differently and learn to be a leader and not a follower or “leaner” (as Dr. Marden called it).

Leadership exercises! There are a lot of leadership exercises you can practice that will surely transform your life and your business.

What are they? It may be useful to check-out online training courses as well as offline seminars and workshops designed to build good leaders.

However, in your spare time, here are some leadership exercises to try.

How about every day you do something that scares you?

Even if it's something very minor – don't worry about the details – just do something that requires a little extra bravery that you wouldn't do unless put in a circumstance where you were pushed to do it.

Maybe this means starting a conversation with a stranger, or something even more extreme like skydiving.

It doesn't matter what you choose – the key to good leadership is confidence and you must develop confidence gradually. Stepping out of your comfort zone, or just your regular routine, is a good way to get started!

Formulate short-term goals. Maybe you're not willing to lead a group toward some big, lofty, long-term goal. However, you can determine basic tasks that you want to achieve and take the steps toward success. Practice makes perfect, it really does.
