Leadership Test
How Are You Perceived?

Article

Every leader or potential leader should take a leadership test. Too often, people think of leaders in abstract ways and they don't actually look at leadership as an art that can be practiced and improved upon.

Leaders aren't just enigmatic rulers of countries or army commanders or company CEO's. While certainly those groups of people exhibit rare forms of leadership, it's important that we look at quality leadership through a different, more progressive perspective.

Leadership Quote

"You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can’t get them across, your ideas won’t get you anywhere."

- Lee Iacocca

Maybe you will or maybe you won't be the next Martin Luther King or John F. Kennedy. Either way, we can learn a lot from the history of our greatest leaders.

How would you do on a basic leadership test? Here are some questions for you to answer to help you determine if you have the skills necessary to be a good leader.

Maybe you're the boss at a big company, maybe you're the leader of a church, maybe you're a teacher, or maybe you're just a parent who wants to regain control in your home.

Whatever the case, this leadership test is for you!

  • How would you define leadership?
  • Do you have faith in the goals you articulate for people?
  • Do you have faith that the directions you give people will help achieve those goals?
  • Do people have faith in you?
  • Do your people respect you?
  • What do your people say about you at their own dinner table?
  • Would your people refer others to work for you?

This is just a generic leadership test to get you to begin brainstorming.

Certainly you will want to enroll in a more formal seminar or take an online training course to get a more in-depth analysis of your individual skills, so you can learn how to develop them.

If by chance you felt you somewhat stumbled on answering these questions, then that's a sign that you have more than a few things to learn.

A leader must have a clear vision for his or her own self as well as for whatever project is at hand.

Self-awareness is a key asset every leader must possess. You must understand clearly how others perceive you in order to be most effective.

If you struggle to be a good leader, consider taking more than a few words of advice from the leader of the New Thought movement in America from the 20th century – Dr. Orison Swett Marden.

Dr. Marden published a series of inspirational self-help books, like “Thoughts On Character” (which urges readers to value their character more than their material possessions), that have helped millions of Americans reclaim their lives and follow their destinies.

With the Leadership Series For Successful Living, you can listen to five of Dr. Marden's classics online and utilize the workbooks as an insightful leadership test.

It would serve you well in your quest to become a better leader, to introduce yourself to his teachings.
