A life that is purpose driven is the only life worth living. Before “The Purpose Driven Life” was written and became massively popular, and in fact before almost every self-help book or video series hit the shelves, there was Dr. Orison Swett Marden.
If you want to find joy and happiness in life that will endure through the years and lead to success in your personal and work life, then we highly recommend that you begin reading or listening to Dr. Marden's motivational books. Most people don’t realize that Dr. Marden practically originated the idea of living a life that is purpose driven. Fortunately, with the Leadership Series For Successful Living, you can actually listen to his teachings online. Dr. Marden's timeless wisdom, first published during the late 1800’s, is now more accessible than ever. Marden believed a life that is purpose driven is a life that is happy and successful. He embraced the New Thought movement from Europe and introduced it to America with his many self-help books. Essentially Marden founded the success movement in America. Dr. Marden's personal story of how he achieved wealth and happiness, coming from a poor and abusive childhood, is inspiring on its own, but it's also the author's beautiful way with words and practical advice that was such a hit with his readers. In his book “The Optimistic Life,” Dr. Marden taught that once a person had direction in his or her life, it was difficult for them to carry around a frown every day. In “The Optimistic Life,” Dr. Marden held that a person's imagination could either be a friend or an enemy. If a person imagines every possible bad consequence or disaster that could result in a decision, they will be negative about everything and make bad decisions or no decisions at all. Indeed, whatever they were afraid would happen, will happen. On the other hand, having faith in the future renders a person bold and confident and allows them to accomplish greatness! All of Dr. Marden's books had a common theme, that character and attitude is one’s greatest assets, or liabilities. It’s not the amount of money in a bank account or a person's outward appearance or natural intelligence that makes their way in life. It's a choice to be happy and it's a choice to be sad. Surely, there is a time for every emotion and ambition, but a life that is purpose driven is not a life that is filled with fear about the future.
