Main Cause Of Stress
Conquering Worry & Fear

Article

What is the main cause of stress, you ask? Worry. Worry about your next deadline. Worry about whether or not you'll get fired or hired for a job. Worry about whether your favorite sports team will win the national championship.

There are countless things we all worry about.

Worries about your relationship with a significant other. Worry about your children. Worry about an upcoming exam. Worry, worry, worry.

But worry has little purpose. It may give us some tiny amount of motivation to make positive changes in our lives and solve problems – but when it only brings us down and prevents us from living in the here and now, it does little to benefit us and will almost always make our problems worse.

In short, worry, is the most unproductive use of anyone’s time.

Both physical and mental stresses are our body's responses to various pressures in life. Most often, the main cause of stress is well within our control.

We create these stresses and too often we continue to nourish them. On that same token, we can choose to eliminate stress in our lives – it doesn't have to follow us everywhere we go. This is what America's first self-help author from the 1900's figured out and it's one of the reasons his many books were so popular.

Dr. Orison Swett Marden wrote in his classic “The Joys of Living,” that people were so obsessed with the past and the future that they failed to make the most of the present.

Their happiness depends on dreams for tomorrow, instead of the reality of today and they are constantly consumed in regrets about the past, and fears and doubts about the future.

Thus, the main cause of stress is right under our nose. Worry and Fear – Fear and Worry. We just have to begin thinking differently about things.

Instead of saying “tomorrow will be a better day and next year will be a better year,” why not say “today will be a great day and this year will be a great year”?

This was Dr. Marden's main message to his readers and even though the gifted and inspiring writer is no longer alive today, you can hear five of his most motivational and helpful books online.

That's right! With the Leadership Series For Successful Living, you can download his books online and listen to them instantly, risk free.

If you're looking for a new perspective, and you have determined the main cause of stress in your life, technology is on your side.

So there's really no excuse to go on worrying about tomorrow. Instead, live in the here and now and let Dr. Marden help you do it.
