Natural Remedies For Depression

Article

Looking for natural remedies for depression? You won't find any by watching television commercials that only advertise prescription drugs.

However, if you're feeling symptoms of stress, depression, and/or anxiety – there is hope and it doesn't necessarily have to come in the form of a pill!

For whatever reason our society seems to think that every single ailment requires ongoing medication.

If you doubt this, you may want to check out the scary statistics of how many school-age children are taking Ritilan and other prescribed medication.

On the other hand, if you need medication, by all means figure out what works for you and start moving forward.

The fact that you're already seeking help is a great sign and it probably means that you are anything but a lost cause. So let's get to it! (You may wish to consult a physician to see if these are viable options in your case.)

Here are some great natural remedies for depression:

  • Exercise
Going for a light jog, dancing, doing an ab routine – all of these physical acts are a great way to release some of that physical and emotional stress you are suffering from.

When you work out, your body produces endorphins, which not only lower your blood pressure, but also contributes to your general sense of well-being. So whether you just want to go for a stroll every day in the park or if you want to do a more intense workout routine at the gym, just make sure to always stay active!

  • Take a hot bath
When you're anxious about personal problems, it's a good idea to find a time during the morning or evening when you can simply relax and sit alone with your thoughts. A hot bubble bath is the perfect setting for this.

Meditation and other relaxing activities – like reading – are also recommended.

  • Keep a journal
Often our anxieties cause us so much trouble because we won't confront them. Maybe we feel too inhibited to talk to a friend or family member – or therapist – but by simply writing down all of our emotions and thoughts, however frantic, on a piece of paper, we can let go of a lot of what is troubling us.

This is one of the best natural remedies for depression as those who are in touch with their feelings are better able to deal with them. It's when we hide from our feelings that we lose the battle against depression.

  • Eat and sleep right
If your emotional health is at risk, it's probably likely that you're not doing too well physically either! Do you feel sick a lot? Do you get headaches or stomach aches often?

That's probably because your immune system is weak. If you can eat a consistently nutritious diet and get about 8 hours of sleep every night, then not only can you strengthen your immune system, but you'll find that you will start to feel happier too.

There are a number of other natural remedies for depression as well, and one of those include therapy and self-help.

Beyond talking to a medical professional, you might want to listen to the wisdom of Dr. Orison Swett Marden, the leader of the American success movement of the 1800's. His book “How They Succeeded” is the perfect book for anyone who feels uninspired and apathetic about life.

“How They Succeeded” is simply a collection of profile features of highly successful people throughout history; their tales of struggle through adverse situations, to eventually fame and success due to their persistent efforts.

Find out how people like Rockefeller and Carnegie became the successful men that they were!

Best of all, you can listen, risk free, to Leadership Series For Successful Living. If you want to address your depression without turning to medications and the like, you have many options, including natural remedies for depression. The best thing to do is take advantage of all your options!
