Overcoming stress is a daunting task. Stress, after all, may follow us everywhere we go – to work, to our lunch break, and back to our homes. Maybe we don't even understand why we feel stressed in the first place. This is often the case. We are often plagued with persistent and powerful thoughts of worry and self-doubt and it impacts our ability to look forward to the future. Stress wreaks havoc on not only your emotional and mental wellbeing, but your physical body suffers as a result. Your immune system is weakened and you get sick more often; you suffer from head, back and neck pain; your heart rate is increased, putting you at risk for cardiovascular problems like stroke and heart attack. So it's necessary that you take the steps toward overcoming stress as soon as you recognize the symptoms. You've already taken the most important step. You're reading this article! While overcoming stress is not an easy thing to do, it's hardly out of your reach. You weren't always stressed, were you? It took years of schooling and work and relationship turmoil to get you to the place you are now - and the good news is that it can all be reversed. Dr. Orison Swett Marden didn't really believe in stress. He lived in a different time in America, the 1900's, and he certainly didn't foresee the busy bees of today and their fast-paced work environments and love lives, etc. However, he was way ahead of his time and his message was one that the self-help gurus of today borrowed from and continue to disperse as their own material. But no one could say it better than Dr. Marden. In his book “Getting On,” he called on readers to stop doubting themselves, to say yes to dreams and goals they previously thought were impossible and to transform their thoughts of worry and fear into thoughts of peace and hope. With the Leadership Series For Successful Living, you can hear even more of the late great Dr. Marden. You can download five of his best works in an audio format online. How easy and convenient is that? So if you don't have the time to sit down and read – and that's not surprising, as you're reading an article about overcoming stress! – why not just open up your ears and your mind to these time-proven ideas and techniques?
