Selected Quotes From: The Power Of Personality
| "In order to make a good impression, one must not merely be well dressed, or well mannered, or well groomed, or cheerful, - he must be all of these. To be lacking in any is to lack on e of the essentials of a pleasing, attractive personality."
"Poverty is no excuse for a bad appearance. No business man, no progressive man or woman in any vocation, will accept it."
"How many young men of this kind do we encounter every day in the stores and offices, in the cars, on the streets, - everywhere we go! What a pity it is they do not know that their gratuitous rudeness is a boomerang which invariably returns and strikes themselves."

Excerpt From the Self-Help Classic... The Power Of Personality
| "’TAKE YOUR MANNERS WITH YOU.’ This bit of advice caught my eye the other day in a traveler’s guide. I pass it on to the great army of young people who are every year starting out on their journey of life, going into the world to make their way alone. ‘Take your manners with you,’ your best manners, wherever you go. They are, in a far more intimate way than your clothes or any external accessory, a part of your personal appearance. They are, indeed, a part of yourself.
Do not deceive yourself by thinking that merit will ultimately win in spite of manners. Superior merit has starved to death in many a man and woman because they could not overcome the handicap of an offensive manner.
If you are rude and disagreeable in your bearing, no matter what your ability or honesty, or industry, people will avoid you. No one will want you in his employ. We are all so made that we love sunshine and harmony. We gravitate toward agreeable, kindly people as material bodies gravitate toward the center of the earth. Though an employer may be coarse and gruff himself, he appreciates refinement and gentle manners in others, and, given equal ability, he will advance the quiet, refined employee in preference to the one who is lacking in courtesy, the finishing grace of a fine personality. Progressive employers everywhere realize that they can have no more valuable business asset than a reputation for courtesy, and they insist upon good manners as a necessary qualification for every one in their employment.
Edward C. Simmons, a self-made millionaire, says: ‘Politeness is the cheapest and yet often the best capital in the world. You can draw upon it in unlimited qualities. It pays a large interest and costs nothing. I would say to all young men: Do not keep your politeness down in your boots where no one can see it. Let it out. Keep it in front of your and all around you. If you are polite to everybody, everybody will be polite to you… Politeness will also contribute much to your success in commercial Life.’"
