Public Service Leadership
Giving Back Gets You More

Article

Public service leadership provides a great opportunity because it really allows room for those who want to give back to their communities.

Too many career paths tend to encourage people to step over others in order to get promoted, or to cut corners in order to increase profits.

However, genuine public service provides people with an opportunity to serve their fellow citizens and to hopefully do so with character and integrity.

However, that doesn't mean the skills for public service are any different than for other fields. For example, the CEO of a Fortune 500 company probably has many of the same qualities as the head of a non-profit volunteer organization.

Politicians, in particular, all too often become corrupted by power and greed in the same way those in the private sector do.

So, let's talk about public service leadership and how you can tap into the same skills that other pursuits require and yet not sacrifice your integrity.

Public service leadership is often heavy in the motivation factor. This is because you typically aren't trying to inspire people to do a job for the ultimate goal of a paycheck.

Instead, you might be inspiring people to work toward a common goal, perhaps to protect the environment or raise money for charity or support a public policy.

Thus, for public service leadership, a person must learn how to emotionally appeal to his or her audience – whomever that audience happens to be.

Public speaking skills and a talent at articulating abstract ideals to show how they fit into concrete plans is really key for public service leadership.

Dr. Orison Swett Marden served the public as a self-help author (the first self-help author to exist in America, in fact) in the early 20th century.

Marden was determined to teach people how to be good leaders. In his many works, like “Pushing To The Front” and “Thrift,” he gave people the practical tools to be efficient in the workplace.

In other books, he was more overt about his intentions: he wanted to encourage readers to live their lives with immense confidence and have faith that their abilities could take them to any place they wanted to go!

This really is the secret behind the greatest leaders. You must have faith in yourself and your goals if you are to inspire faith in the masses.

If you want to hear more from Dr. Marden and reap the benefits of his powerful teachings, you can quickly download five of his classic books online with the Leadership Series For Successful Living?

As you listen to Marden’s inspiring works, you will get a clear vision of a person who can overcome any obstacle and press on to realize their dreams. That person, is you.
