Self Esteem Lesson Plans
Make A Vote Of Confidence!

Article

Looking for self esteem lesson plans? In today's curriculum, it is not uncommon for teachers to impart their wisdom about character and morality, in addition to teaching the typical subjects of reading, writing, math and science.

So if you're looking for ways to help your students or your children understand complex topics like self-esteem, then here are some ideas to get you started.

There are several lesson plans that have been used successfully over the years.

They are usually great fun for children, who may not even realize they are learning valuable lessons. However, self esteem lesson plans must be geared for a particular grade level – a kindergarten student is not going to benefit from the same lesson plan as a second grade student.

Still, you need a broad introduction to get you on track. Here are some basic self esteem lesson plans for elementary children to get the wheels in your brain turning!

  • Story time
Children love to learn from fictional character in storybooks. If you can inspire them to relate to a storybook character, they can begin to empathize with the character's situation and put themselves in his or her shoes.

So, choose a storybook that presents a moral dilemma and read it to the kids. But don't just stop there – engage them in a discussion about the story afterward and ask them what they would do if they were put in the same situation.

You may even want to ask questions as you read the book. To make this fit in the specific category of self esteem lesson plans, choose a story that features a character who feels poorly about his or her talent/intelligence/ability – then overcomes his fears and doubts to win the day.

  • The compliment game
Have each child draw the name of a classmate and then ask them to write down something they like about that classmate.

After reviewing all the compliments, read them aloud to the class (anonymously if you like). This will surely foster a happy kinship with the children and remind them of what makes them special and unique.

Hopefully these self esteem lesson plans will help you to brainstorm and think of others! If you're looking for a little more inspiration, it might benefit you to read the works of Dr. Orison Swett Marden, author of such classics as “Pushing To The Front”, “The Joys Of Living” and “Woman and Home.”

The motivational self-help author was one of the inventors of the modern American idea about self esteem; you can even listen to many of his greatest books online with the Leadership Series For Successful Living.
