Stress Management Article
What Can I Do NOW?

Article

Browsing the web for a helpful stress management article? Well, you've found it. Stress is something we all have to deal with on occasion.

After all, it often drives us to succeed and even prompts us to adequately respond to pressure. But what happens when it gets out of hand? How do we manage it?

Often when we're stressed out, we crash. We should be wary of this, however, said Dr. Orison Swett Marden.

The famous self-help author of the 19th and 20th century wrote in his book “Do It to a Finish,” that any time a person falls short of completing a task or doesn't put 100% of his or her effort into it, they lose a little part of themselves.

Unfortunately, that's just what stress causes us to do – rush through our lives, bow to the deadline rather than to the experience of the work, and sometimes even completely crack under the pressure.

Maybe we think that the idea of our boss yelling at us keeps us going; but what are we moving toward if that's what it takes to motivate us? Hopefully we wake up in the morning because we enjoy life, not because we'll get a lecture if we're late to work.

Dr. Marden wrote a series of books about how to enter into every area of life with a positive outlook and in fact, you could say this stress management article wouldn't be written if it weren't for his powerful contributions to the New Thought movement almost a hundred years ago.

Indeed, he believed that stress was a hindrance to a person's life, not a necessity. Dr. Marden proposed that people find new reasons to succeed, reasons that exceeded the desire to earn a mere paycheck.

In this stress management article, the quality of living is the message and focus. Ask yourself what adds to your stress and then ask why. Until you understand the causes, not just the effects (which can become quite serious), it's hard to remedy the problem.

In any stress management article, you can read solutions to overwhelming stress: bubble baths, meditation, writing, exercise, a good night's rest, etc. But these are just ways to cope with the symptoms.

If you want the cure, you need to rethink your life.

Why is it that you do not have enough peace of mind and faith in your future that you can't endure life's hiccups without major stress and anxiety?

If you need some guidance in figuring this out, you can listen to five of Dr. Marden's classic books on audio with the Leadership Series For Successful Living.
