Stress Management In The Workplace
Prevention Is Key To Savings

Article

Stress management in the workplace is an important topic that doesn't get the attention it deserves.

Americans these days are hard workers who log in more than 40 hours at their job every week. Considering the time spent in the workplace, it shouldn't be a place of anxiety for you.

If you're suffering from work-related stress, it's time to sit down, relax, and reconsider your lifestyle. Your job should not be a source of unhappiness for you.

If the only thing you're getting out of your career is a regular paycheck, then that's not enough! After all, what does mere income mean if your quality of life is low?

Life is way too short to take it for granted and chase after a wage, rather than a dream.

So, let's learn a little more about stress management in the workplace specifically. Dr. Orison Swett Marden, the founder of the success movement in America in the early 20th century, was one of the originators of the concept that your work should be a passion that drives you, not just something that helps you pay the bills.

This is because during his time period of writing, many young adults sought only to be what their fathers and grandfathers were. They were not yet awakened to the fact that one could be, and should be, that which fed their passions.

Dr. Marden wanted to let them know that it was okay – and even necessary – to be happy in your work. Work is work. But it can, and should, be enjoyable and rewarding.

When thinking about stress management in the workplace, you must learn techniques on how to focus on the job without allowing thoughts of worry and fear enter your mind.

A lot of stress is caused when we think ahead: Are we going to make our deadline? Will the boss be happy with our work? Will I get home late again and upset my family? etc.

The key is to value the here and now. You must be getting something out of every task, no matter how mundane.

Look at every task as an opportunity for personal growth and development. This may seem a strange way to look at a job, but it's the only way you should look at it!

Also, think of ways to bring in influences that calm and soothe you into your work place. Get a pillow to sit on if you're uncomfortable in your chair.

Bring a CD with your favorite music and listen to it with a pair of headphones while you're completing your work. Make sure to eat and sleep right, too, as you can only be mentally happy if you're physically happy.

Dr. Marden had a lot of advice for American workers, regarding stress management in the workplace – indeed, most of his focus was on how to get the most of out of a career and ultimately a life.

For instance, his books, like “Thrift” and “Success Under Difficulties”, gave readers tips on how to live a better quality life, so stress management in the workplace was not an issue.
