Global leadership... what an intimidating term! What is global leadership?

Leadership comes in all forms and there is a leader inside every human being, just waiting to be let out. Global leadership is a combined effort by both individuals and governments to make a difference – whether it be creating a policy or raising funds for a charity.

How do you fit in? It can be difficult to find the motivation to care about much more than our daily routines and personal relationships. After all, our own issues cause us enough stress, right?

We may already feel like we're carrying the world on our shoulders – so why should we go a step further and overtly try to solve the world's problems?

Well, if that's your reaction, maybe you still really are in the dark about what is global leadership. It may only require that you play a very small role – but no matter how big or small a role you play, you can be a part of an important change in the world. The choice is really up to you.

Dr. Orison Swett Marden believed in the power of the individual spirit. He taught, in his many self-help books from the 1800's, that no matter how ordinary a human being was, he could do great things and become great as a result.

You could say Dr. Marden originated the whole idea of “following your bliss” in the 19th century. Although he did not originate the term, he effectively communicated the timeless message that one is indeed in control of his or her destiny in a unique and beautiful way. He sent this key message to an American audience who, in the late 1800's, was developing a new self-identity.

Would it not be a complete shame if later generations didn't realize their individual freedom too?

So, what is global leadership? Global leadership is you and me and everybody else working together toward a common goal.

If you're feeling apathetic about your own destiny, you'll probably have little reason to care about anyone else on this planet. But once you start seeing the changes you can make in your own life, you'll probably feel inspired to help others – as Dr. Marden did with his books.
